Nutritional status is one of the important indicators in supporting human life, one of which is in elementary school-age children. The content of my plate is the one of the clear proofs of balanced nutritional intake. Balanced nutritional intake has a direct relationship with one’s knowledge, if one’s knowledge of nutritional needs is appropriate, the frequency of one’s balanced nutritional intake can be fulfilled properly. The purpose of this study is to increase knowledge and understanding related food selection in meeting balanced nutritional intake which is characterized by an increase in the consumption of vegetables, fruits, and a reduction in consumption of snacks high in sugar, salt, and fat.
This study is an observational study with a quantitive research model with a pre and post-test design. The sample in this study was grade 5 student of SDN Ploso I172 who had met the inclusion criteria, conducted by simple random sampling. Sampling was carried out by looking at knowledge questionnaires before and after nutrition education. The test used is the Wilcoxon with a significant level of α = 0,05.
The results showed that nutrition education had an influence on increasing knowledge and frequency on balanced nutrition intake and there were differences in knowledge before and after nutrition education. The conclusion of this study is that the provision of nutrition education has a high influence of knowledge and increases the frequency of balanced nutrition intake in 5th grade student of SD Ploso I172.
