How Mineral Nutrition: Mn (Mangan) Metabolism in Our Body and The Toxicity of Mn in Era Society 5.0

Paper Abstract: In the era of society 5.0 where development is being intensively carried out and causes excessive mineral Mn in the body because it is inhaled when we breathe. This turns out to cause toxicity in the body due to manganese metabolism in the body and attacks brain neurons, namely neuro toxicity.  When the amount of manganese is not balanced in the body either less or excess can interfere with the metabolism of other nutrients. The function of manganese related to bone development in children, the process of manganese bone growth plays an important role so that when manganese is deficient, bone development is also disrupted. However, nowadays cases of manganese deficiency are rarely encountered because many industrial plants have manganese contained in residues or waste during the production process, and instead cases of manganese toxicity are increasing so that many report that manganese has neuro-toxicity, although the body has the ability to maintain nutrients in the body but the amount accumulated is more causing toxicity.

Method: This study uses literature studies and brainstorming related to manganese mineral nutrient metabolism and toxicity in the current society 5.0 era.

Conclusion: Mn does have a function in the body's metabolism, but in excess amounts it can cause toxicity that is harmful to the body.
