7. Multiple Ontologies: Religiosities, Philosophies, Languages and Society
Belief education has gained widespread attention from various stakeholders, including the government, organizations, activists, and the general public. In 2019, a teacher training program for Belief education (Pendidikan kepercayaan) was established at the University of 17 Agustus 1945 Semarang to address the pressing need for Belief Adherant’s education at the school level. This significant development can be attributed to the tireless efforts of belief advocates in Indonesia. This study delves into the history, philosophy, and challenges surrounding belief education in Indonesia. It examines the evolution of intellectual ideas related to belief education, dating back to the 1950s, such as character education (pendidikan karakter), inner education (Pendidikan kebathinan), and soul education (Pendidikan jiwa). The article posits that political influence caused belief education to lose its popularity despite its once vibrant discourse. The findings of this paper reveal a strong correlation between Javanism and "Belief education" in Indonesia, supported by archives and contemporary documents. Moreover, the paper highlights the current initiatives and advancements aimed at enhancing belief education in Indonesia, providing valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
