6. Using the Arts, Media and Culture: Contestations and Collaborations
Modern eras such as today have an impact on people's lives and their activities, whether traditional or ritualistic. Thus, it is not uncommon for some communities to abandon existing traditions due to the many effects of modernization. Pinggirpapas is one of the villages in Kalianget Subdistrict, Sumenep Regency, that firmly holds the traditions. The baberten tradition is one of the traditions still carried out by the people of Pinggirpapas Village to this day. The baberten tradition is believed by the people of Pinggirpapas Village to keep the village away from all kinds of diseases and dangers. This study used qualitative descriptive research methods to find out the origins of baberten, the existence of baberten traditions in Pinggirpapas Village, and how the people of Pinggirpapas tried to maintain the baberten tradition. The object of this study is the baberten tradition that exists in the village of Pinggirpapas, Kalianget District, Sumenep Regency. In this study, the targets in the interview method are the baberten traditional perpetrators, the traditional figures in Pinggirpapas, and the regent of Pinggirpapas Village. In observation, the researcher will be directly involved with the baberten ritual carried out and collect data obtained through documentation and library studies.
