The Human Origins Heritage program: an Alternative Community Involvement Knowledge Production and Transmission for Community Participation in Prehistoric Heritage and Conservation

Paper Abstract: Scientific awareness is mandatory for the local community in Sangiran Early Man Site- a prehistoric world heritage area that condenses with populations in Central Java, Indonesia. A plethora of studies about natural and anthropogenic challenges demonstrated a critical endeavor to involve the local people in heritage research and conservation. Moreover, people's perceptions impacted the protection action of sites and heritage properties. Therefore, many experimental methods participate the inhabitants to reduce the catastrophe of sites and heritage properties examined. This research elaborates on the Human Origins Heritage- an international and interdisciplinary program initiated by Muséum national d'histoire naturelle (France) and Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana (Indonesia) supported by multi-parties to discover alternative solutions in fostering pedagogical design to students and the local community. In 2018-2023, students from 25 countries and 17 disciplines enrolled to join the program with the "science participative" method. The paper emphasizes the communication process of knowledge production and transmission among participants in providing inclusive and equal space, particularly in retentions of scientific materials in multi-dimensional participants' backgrounds and actual conservation heritage circumstances. The results generated the essential role of academicians as agents of change; equal power in communication, relationship duration, and history between academics and the local community influences community participation.
