10. Healing Bodies: Medicine, Well-being, Sport
Contemporary individuals perceive problems as progressively complicated, hence encountering challenges in navigating through existence. Spirituality and belief systems, such as religion, frequently serve as coping mechanisms for adaptation during periods of uncertainty in life. Within the Javanese community, many continue to observe the ritual practices of their forebears, believing them to be effective in alleviating the diverse challenges they face in life. The Watugede site is one of the locations where ancestral rituals continue to be practiced. As a preliminary study, two ritual practitioners and a site guard who assisted in the rituals were interviewed in depth. Observations are conducted concurrently with the ritual practice. According to the findings from interviews and observations, ritual practitioners visit and engage in rituals at that site due to their genuine belief in the positive impact these rituals have on their good health and spiritual well-being; therefore they carry out these rituals regularly.
