Community Parenting Programs for Left-Behind Children: A Case Study in Indonesia

Paper Abstract: This research aims to find out the implementation of community parenting; the effectiveness and the challenges involved in the implementation of community parenting; and the important of micro and meso elements in shaping community parenting program in Indramayu. With the increasing number of migrant labors, there has also been an increase in the number of left behind children who live separately from their migrant p<span style="letter-spacing: -.05pt;">arents. This increasing is often associated with social problems that occur in society. So far, Z Generation attached to anti-social stereotypes is instantaneous and has difficulty communicating with previous generations, especially with the baby boomer generation, most of whom became surrogate carers for left behind children. The existence of generational differences often causes communication gap as each generation is attached to certain ideal values that are very different from one another. Based on this phenomenon, this research will use Bronfenbrenner's theoretical approaches and the conceptual of multidirectional care to analyze the implementation of community p<span style="letter-spacing: -.05pt;">arenting. Regarding the research location, this research will be located in Indramayu, West Java. By using qualitative approach, informants in this study will be selected purposively, namely village head; targeted community; and social group representatives. The expected results of this research are finding out the implementation of community parenting; the effectiveness and the challenges; and the important of micro and meso elements in shaping community parenting program in Indramayu.
