[Workshop] Introduction to the CHAMPSEA Public Use Data Files
Monday, July 29, 2024
16:15 – 18:00 (GMT+7)
Location: Post Graduate School Building, P1.02
Activity or Workshop Details: Join us for this methodological and practical workshop to introduce the Child Health and Migrant Parents in Southeast Asia (CHAMPSEA) Public Use Data Files.
Asia is a significant site of migration, sending and receiving migrants within the region and further afield. Migrants often travel alone to destinations, spending years apart from their families who remain in origin countries. The CHAMPSEA project is a longitudinal mixed-method comparative study which explores the longer-term impact of parental migration on children’s health and well-being across Southeast Asia. The original design of CHAMPSEA focused specifically on Southeast Asian countries to better understand commonalities and divergences in the balance of benefits and costs of migration as a family livelihood strategy in the region. Previous rounds of data collection were completed in 2008 and 2016, with a third round of recently conducted in 2023 in Indonesia and the Philippines creating a unique data resource which captures dynamics of family and migration over a period of significant social and economic change.
This hands-on data user workshop will introduce the surveys and data access opportunities to the pre-existing datafiles. The datasets offer opportunities to explore a range of different research topics. Participants are encouraged to join this workshop to learn more about the project background, available data, and access opportunities.
