Overweight and obesity are increasingly becoming a public health challenge in low and middle-income countries (LMICs), including Indonesia. In parallel, the prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) has grown dramatically, with many of them directly linked to poor life style such as unhealthy diets and sedentary behavior. These diseases now account for nearly three out of four deaths in the country. NCDs will also result in significant economic losses, amounting to a total of USD4.47 trillion between 2012 and 2030. This is equivalent to five times the GDP of Indonesia and 170 times its total health expenditures in 2012. This panel will issue and raise awareness, as well as advocate for prevention initiatives, focusing on children and adolescents. The panel will consist of professionals from multiple disciplines, including psychologists, nutritionists, and medical doctors. Additionally, this panel will present policy and programmatic recommendations developed in consultation with government partners and other stakeholders.
