Roundtable Abstract:
The roundtable "Healing through Humanity" aims to facilitate an interdisciplinary and holistic discourse with a special emphasis on public health, that explores the vital but often undervalued role of human attributes and cultural perspectives in health and well-being. This forum will bring together healthcare professionals, psychologists, sociologists, cultural anthropologists, and students to examine how these intrinsic human qualities and socio-cultural contexts can be woven into effective care, public health interventions, and policies.
Three subjects - Pandemic and Post-Pandemic, Family Health, Trauma and Resilience, and Aging Society – will be the starting points for this roundtable discussion. Each of them is tailored to the interests of public health in a broader interdisciplinary context, such as health beliefs, healthcare delivery, health policy, social connection, health equality and equity, etc.
The objectives of this roundtable include identifying evidence-based avenues to integrate human qualities and socio-cultural considerations into public health initiatives, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, and influencing policy development. By marrying intrinsic human attributes with geo-socio-cultural nuances and grounding these discussions in the realm of public health, we aim to bring a multi-dimensional, humane, and inclusive perspective to healthcare research, policymaking, and delivery.
This roundtable is a sequel to a previous ICAS roundtable ‘Global Health and the Asia Pacific’ in 2021, which led to the establishment of a new IIAS Blog channel ‘Global Health Matters’, which has raised our awareness of the matters of ‘Global Health, Pandemics, and Geopolitics’ and ‘Equality, Equity, and Good Practices’. An IIAS Podcast episode ‘Cultural Healing’ has been made as a continuation as well. We look forward to furthering the academic discussion and healthcare practice in ICAS 13. With participants from cross-disciplines and professional sectors, we aim to accelerate cooperation in research projects and good practices.
The concept of the current roundtable proposal can be extended to a comprehensive programme, including a roundtable, a documentary/film session, and a panel discussion. We are now in the speaking term with the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Airlangga, to explore the opportunities.
