[Writing Workshop] How to Write a Good Book Proposal
Monday, July 29, 2024
16:15 – 18:00 (GMT+7)
Location: Post Graduate School Building, P1.04
You’ve spent years doing research and writing your findings. It’s time to find a publishing house to publish your book. How do you go about doing that? Once you've chosen a publisher, you will find that first of all, you need to write a book proposal. What will make your proposal stand out above all the proposals that academic presses receive? What would make publishers and Series Editors enthusiastic about your research? And how do they respond to dissertations? What do you need to keep in mind when converting your dissertation into a book?
In this workshop, Mary Lynn van Dijk of the IIAS and Inge Klompmakers of AUP will share their views on how to write a good book proposal to help you increase your chances at getting your proposal accepted. This workshop is especially aimed at early career scholars working on their first book and will require participants to read the AUP’s Book Proposal Form available online. Prospective authors may access and view the AUP’s Book Proposal Form on Author Guide (Academic) | Amsterdam University Press (aup.nl), or request it from or send questions to Mary Lynn van Dijk at m.l.c.van.dijk@iias.nl before 25 July 2024.
The workshop is open to everybody but especially to early career scholars working on their first book.
