[Workshop] Public Intervention - Workshop of Inflatable Sculpture in Public Space
Sunday, July 28, 2024
13:00 – 17:00 (GMT+7)
Location: ASEEC Tower, 2nd Floor
In this hands-on workshop, participants will engage with various artistic and activist groups that perform artistic interventions in protests and collectively build their own playful inflatable structure addressing local and international social agendas, discussed within the context of ICAS 13 and Surabaya. The workshop will be divided into two parts:
The first part will feature a discussion exploring past references and social contexts where art emerges as a form of political expression, alongside marches and protests, such as the alter-globalization protests of the 2000s, the 2013 public transportation revolts in Brazil, and other international experiences.
In the second part, the group will address technical aspects, learning how to create an inflatable structure using plastic sheeting and regular fans. Finally, we will place the completed sculpture in a public space for people to interact with it.
The workshop aims to bring together local participants with academics attending ICAS, creating both a theoretical and practical bridge between the local and international communities through the playful construction of a giant sculpture.
The workshop will be led by artist and activist Frederico Ravioli, Brazilian artist, militant and teacher, who creates aesthetic interventions with inflatables in protests in Brazil and will be holding an exhibition at ICAS simultaneously
