“Ways of Seeing & Knowing: Approaches to understanding painting authenticity and attribution in Indonesia” seeks to elucidate modalities for knowledge production and transmission and that are employed when artwork authenticity is called into doubt, or a counterfeit painting is detected. The cross-cultural methodology adopted in this study acknowledges the embedded knowledge hierarchies, socially situated knowledge systems, communities and cultures that contribute to this research.
