In this panel, we will explore the translocal cultural flows of the global Chinese communities and their influence within the global Chinese communities and other ethnic cultures in the globalised contemporary world that we live in today. In this panel, the papers will adopt a trans-local approach and also use the idea of cultural power as in Nye’s soft power (2008) to explore the transmission of cultural ideas, actions and material culture across regions and nations within the global Chinese landscape. Through the trans-local socio-cultural flows, we will investigate social interactions at the people-to-people level.
