Wenjing Qiu is a PhD student at Leiden University, now doing her fieldwork in Jakarta starting from September 2023. Her research focuses on the labour, livelihood, womanhood, everyday life of fisherpeople in the green mussel industry. She is also interested in examining the juxtaposition of wealthy and poor communities commonly seen in Indonesian cities. With her ethnic background of Chinese and Korea, she finds her identity both in and out of the fishing community, which provides more insights about the economic disparity, ethnicity and political complicity through the local life.
