I am interested in intertidal spaces and the approaches to environmental (in) justice, crises and toxicity they offer. My background is in geology, pedagogy, sociolingusitics and environmental anthropology. I am based at the Leiden University Institute for Area Studies: Asian Studies. I teach a variety of courses about political ecology, environmental politics, ecofeminism and the politics of decolonisation in academia for Research MA, MA, BA and PhD students. My research has explored the different environmental paradigms multilingual and multireligious 'small' islands negotiate, especially around seaweed fields and in relation to rocks and fish, and the toxicity of floating waste (with a focus on plastic). Ultimately, my work seeks to challenge Eurocentric, capitalist and positivistic approaches to environmental knowledge, human-environmental relations, non-human agency and everything in between.
