Maria is a student with inter-disciplinary background. She got a formal degree in both architecture and urban design, as well as trained in anthropology and post-colonial studies. However, her kampung perspective formed after school, back in her early years in People Shelter Foundation of Yogyakarta. Back in 2016, she was granted participation in IIAS-CSEAS winter school, which inspired her to continue her inquiry in appropriated urban aesthetics, writing a rebuttal "Arsitektur Anarki", and pursuing her doctoral degree. In present she is post-graduate student in Department of Literature Studies, in Faculty of Cultural Studies, Universitas Indonesia, investigating aesthetic-language of Architecture regime.
