Mika Hattori Vermeulen completed her Ph.D. in the Doctoral Program in International Development at Nagoya University Graduate School. She holds a Doctorate in Arts and Sciences and has authored English language teaching materials, including ”The Chigasaki Method: Monthly English Textbooks”. Currently, she serves as Associate Professor in the Faculty of World Liberal Arts at Nagoya University of Foreign Studies. Her expertise lies in sociology, specifically focusing on women's studies and gender research. Her research interests encompass human migration, social change, and consumer culture. One of her prominent papers is titled” Women’s Magazines and Modern Consumer Culture of Japan: The Transition of Ideals on the Lives of Women as Portrayed”.
