Evelyne Shamier is a literary and cultural scholar working at Utrecht University (the Netherlands). She is interested in postcolonial and decolonial theory in combination with climate and ecology studies, focusing in particular on water. The dissertation she is currently writing explores the world's oceans in their historical and contemporary interactions with 'Neerlandophone' literatures. Her research project initiates a de-centralizing transcontinental perspective on sea texts from and on Belgium, Congo, the former Dutch Antilles, former Dutch East Indies, the Netherlands, South Africa and Suriname.
Evelyne Shamier teaches Modern Dutch Literature at Utrecht University, as well as Dutch Language and Culture for international students at University College Utrecht. As a researcher she is affiliated with the Network of Environmental Humanities (UNEH) and the Institute for Cultural Inquiry (ICON). She is a co-founder and editor of LEEST, the open science platform on Dutch literature and culture, and co-produces the podcast 'Leest spreekt' (www.platformleest.org).
