Xiaohuan Zhao is an Associate Professor of Chinese Literary and Theatre Studies at the University of Sydney. He had taught at the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland and Otago in New Zealand before taking up his current position at the University of Sydney. His research is profiled in journals including T’oung Pao, TDR/The Drama Review, Asian Theatre Journal, Religion, Ecumenica and Magic, Ritual, and Witchcraft. He is the author of Chinese Theatre: An Illustrated History from Nuoxi and Mulianxi, a two-volume book that received the Honourable Mention from the ADSA for the Rob Jordan Best Book Prize 2022. Among his most recent publications is Chindian Myth of Mulian Rescuing His Mother: On Indic Origins of the Yulanpen Sūtra – Debate and Discussion.
