Dr. Kenichi Yamaguchi is an associate professor at the Okinawa Prefectural College of Nursing (OPCN) in Japan. He teaches undergraduate courses of introductory sociology and sociology of the family at OPCN. With his research interests in Japanese colonialism and modernization projects, he started his research on history of modern medical institutions and governance in Okinawa. In 2019, he received four-year research funding from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan (Reference Number: 19K13886) and began to conduct the current research project. His academic accomplishments include a PhD degree in Sociology from the University of Saskatchewan and a MA degree in Social Studies from the University of Regina in Canada. His PhD thesis investigated post World War II governance in Okinawa with reference to analytical insights of Michele Foucault and Giorgio Agamben. He was awarded “2015 Outstanding Graduating Student Award” by the Canadian Sociological Association. With reference to the current research findings, he also co-authored Chapter 12 of “Visionary Leadership in Healthcare: Excellence in Practice, Policy, and Ethics (2022)," and this book received “2022 American Journal of Nursing Book of Year Award, 1st Place for the Management and Leadership category.”
