Timothy P. Barnard is an Associate Professor of cultural and environmental history at the National University of Singapore. His research focuses on Malay state formation and the environmental history of the Melaka Straits. He has published numerous articles in Pacific Historical Review, Environmental History and the Journal of Southeast Asian Studies. His most recent monographs have been "Nature's Colony" (2016), a history of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, and "Imperial Creatures" (2019), a study of human-animal relations in colonial Singapore.
