Fábio Baqueiro Figueiredo is Associate Professor at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). He has a degree in History (2005) and a PhD in Ethnic and African Studies (2012) from the same institution. He was Associate Professor at the University for International Integration of the Afro-Brazilian Lusophony (UNILAB) (2013-2022), and a research fellow at the University of Bayreuth (2021). His research interests are the relations of culture and politics in the building of modern African nations along the 20th century, especially Angola, with particular emphasis on how people and groups negotiate their identities in terms of nation, race, ethnicity, class, and gender, and the way this play of inclusions, exclusions and relations shapes political processes and changes the way these social categories of identification are defined at multiple levels. He has published about a dozen articles and chapters on African History, and co-edits the Brazilian journal Afro-Ásia. He was a board member of the Brazilian African Studies Association (2019-2022) and is currently one of the national coordinators of the African History Work-group of the Brazilian National History Association. https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6418-8036.
