Johanna O. Zulueta is Professor of Sociology at the Department of Global Diversity Studies, Faculty of Sociology of Toyo University. She received her A.B. (Social Sciences) from the Ateneo de Manila University and her Ph.D. (Sociology) from Hitotsubashi University as a Japanese government (Monbukagakusho) scholar. In 2011-2013, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. She does research on migrations in East Asia, looking at issues related to ethnicities, military basing, gender and families, citizenship, return migration, and aging. In addition to peer-reviewed articles in both English and Japanese, she also edited and wrote books. Among her recent publications are: Women and COVID-19: A Clinical and Applied Sociological Focus on Family, Work, and Community (Routledge, 2023, co-edited with Mariam Seedat-Khan) and Okinawan Women's Stories of Migration: From War Bride to Issei (Routledge, 2022). She is a steering committee member of the Philippine Migration Research Network and is currently on the Executive Board (as Secretary-Treasurer) of the Research Committee on Clinical Sociology (RC 46) of the International Sociological Association.
