Timothy Joseph Henares is a Research Assistant at the Division of Public Policy at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He holds a master's degree in environmental science, policy, and management, which he obtained under the Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program funded by Bai Xian Asia Institute at the same university.
He received his BA in International Studies from De La Salle University in the Philippines. He has also been awarded several scholarships and grants that have enabled him to participate in exchange programs and academic conferences across Asia and Europe, including the UNESCO/People's Republic of China (The Great Wall) Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme (2017-2018) and Salzburg Global Fellowship (2022).
His research focuses on two key areas: sustainable lifestyle behaviors in Hong Kong, and the impact of Chinese and Japanese digital and energy infrastructure in Southeast Asia. Prior to his current role, he served as the coordinator for international affairs at the Dangerous Drugs Board under the Office of the President in the Philippines, where he liaised with international organizations such as the ASEAN Secretariat, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and the International Narcotics Control Board on regional and global matters regarding drug abuse prevention and control.
