Napak Serirak (he/him/his) is a PhD Candidate at the Institute of Asian Studies, Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Napak received his BA in Economics and MA in Anthropology from Thammasat University, Thailand. He was a lecturer in Sociology and Anthropology at the Prince of Songkla University, Thailand. Being trained as an anthropologist interested in environmental history and political ecology, his PhD research utilises historical and ethnographic methods. It aims to study the co-constitution of ‘nature’, ‘place’ and ‘people’ regarding the production of scientific knowledge on rainforest biodiversity, politics of nature conservation and nature-based tourism in Brunei. Locating his research site in and around the Ulu Temburong National Park, this research studies how local knowledge of the more-than-human landscape is used, produced, and represented in the livelihoods of local communities. It is hoped to add a nuanced understanding of the impact of nature conservation, especially protected areas, upon the indigenous knowledge production and livelihoods.
