Dr. V. Gajendran is working as an Assistant Professor (Sociology) at the Department of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, The Tamil Nadur Dr Ambedkar Law University. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, India in the project ‘Reimagining the ‘Good City’ from Ennore Creek, Chennai’ funded by The British Academy. He earned his PhD from Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, India. His areas of interest are the Sociology of Development, rural-urban continuum and transformation of agricultural land into non-agricultural uses in peri-urban areas. He received funding from York University, Canada under the project ‘Global Suburbanism: Governance, Land and Infrastructure in the 21st Century’ to conduct research in peri-urban areas of Chennai during January 2013 – June 2014. He was selected to be part of a scholar exchange as part of the ‘SIRIUS-Swiss Indian Research Program on Globalization of the Indian Urban Systems’ and he visited the Institute of Geography and Sustainability, University of Lausanne, Switzerland during 1-13 May 2017 with the funding support under the Program. He has published articles in highly reputed journal such as Environment & Urbanization Asia and Environment & Planning E and etc.
