Sunday, July 28, 2024
Exhibition during all ICAS 13 ConFest dates
Location: Balai Pemuda Barat
Exhibition Details: The exhibition will display works that will be the base or starting point for workshops and panel discussions we intend to conduct, with the purpose of promoting a dialogue between the context of São Paulo city in Brazil and Surabaya in Indonesia.
These huge, densely populated cities presents a multitude of challenges for their residents, including university and school students. Our artistic endeavors are deeply intertwined with the realities of life within these megalopolises, exploring the pressing issues of urban and economic oppression that permeate them. However, we also view these cities as dynamic political stages, brimming with creative and critical potential. One of our key sources of inspiration revolves around the intricate topic of urban transportation, which serves as a recurring theme in both our artistic creations and our active engagement in local and internationalized social movements. This critical approach of urban transport systems is central to our work and our commitment to advocating for positive change in our urban environments.
The themes explored visually and thematically in the exhibition are: the relationships between art and politics, specifically in the political context and the struggle for transportation in Brazil, its implications, and its connections with the contexts of ICAS’ participants and the unique context of Surabaya.
