I, Dr Deborah Nixon, PhD, am a lecturer at University of Sydney with a background in applied linguistics, and social enquiry. I have a background in anthropology, linguistics, and language education and my active research interests include visual communication practices particularly demotic photographic practices , technology in India under colonialism, and institutions of public pedagogy such as museums and trauma sites . Between 1993-1995 I spent 2 years in Maluku Indonesia helping to upgrade English language teaching practices in 'sekola kejuruan' or technical high schools.
