Simone Shu-Yeng Chung holds a Ph.D. in architecture and an M.Phil. Screen Media and Cultures from the University of Cambridge. Prior to pursuing academia, she practiced as a chartered architect in the United Kingdom after completing her studies in London. Her research interests reside in the synergistic potential offered by the study of visual and moving images to architectural and urban scholarship, and issues concerning contemporary cultures. Chung has held several international fellowships such as the CCA Fellow in Architecture, Japan Foundation Asia Center fellowship and Rome Scholar in Architecture and Urban Design. She has published on urban phenomena, visual spatial studies and immersive environments, and curated exhibitions and film festivals on the subject locally and abroad. Edited book projects include The Hard State, Soft City of Singapore (2020, Amsterdam University Press), and to gather: The Architecture of Relationships - The Singapore Pavilion at the 17th Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition (2021, NUS Department of Architecture), for which she was also a curator of the international presentation.
