Institut Seni Indonesia Surakarta, Indonesia
Harmilyanti Sulistyani is a lecturer in the Interior Design Department at Institut Seni Indonesia Surakarta. She studied architecture at Universitas Sebelas Maret (B.A.) and Universitas Gadjah Mada (M.Sc.). Her research activities focus on history architecture, colonial architecture, and railway stations in particular, and bridge the gap between the history of architecture and heritage. Harmilyanti pursued exploring the railway station architecture in Java, an overview of the circumstances that shaped the establishment and the use of the railway in the colony. The research reveals that there was an interaction between colonial forces and local people in the colony during the infrastructure development. The outcome has important meaning not just for Indonesians but also for researchers who would like to scrutinize the contact zone or sense of belonging in other places. Mutual or shared heritage would support the partnerships for goals (SDG 17). Harmilyanti obtained her Ph.D. from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2022.
